A classic view of the Cathedral

A classic 1887 view of the 'Big Church'. I like the way river is made to look in this picture. I think it would probably have been taken from the Long Bridge, but I'm not sure. My recent photo is from a similar location: Photos of Salisbury: Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows">

  1. This, and the other picture, reminds me of this- http://www.shafe.co.uk/crystal/images/lshafe/Constable_Salisbury_Cathedral_from_the_Meadows_1831.jpg (if there's a way to make that a proper link, I have no idea) Rather gorgeous landscape painting by Constable. Done in 1831 from around the meadows (Well, I'd assume, considering it's called 'Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows') just after the fella's wife died. Rainbow a symbol of hope, amongst the death implied in the graveyard, and the resurrection implied by the holy symbol of the Cathedral. Fun stuff. I'm probably boring you.

But ya know, jus' sayin', I saw this and thought of that. :)

  2. And I'm officially blind, did not see your comment regarding said painting mentioned previously on your photo.

I suppose that's a good thing, considering it's what first sprung to mind when I saw it. You got skillz.

  3. Ellie, Thanks for your comments. It's a great painting. Not sure if I'd want it on my living room wall though.....
